Dasag grooved plates at the Main Railway Station in Wrocław

The Wrocław Main Railway Station is one of the most beautiful railway facilities in Poland. Built in the 50s of the nineteenth century, based on the design of Wilhelm Grapow, the architect of the Upper Silesian Railways, it was a symbol of perfectly developing rail transport. Over the years of intensive operation, the station has undergone two major renovations – the first at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when the facility was enriched with roofed platform halls, and an impressive main hall was built in the former departure hall, and the second – carried out in 2012. At that time, the station building gained a new face, the main square was completely rebuilt and the platform zone was expanded. This is where a series of functional concrete slabs by Dasag was used.

Focusing on safety – grooved platform plates and guide plates

Railway stations in large agglomerations are bustling with life from early morning until late evening. In order to ensure the comfort of movement in the platform area for countless passengers, functional solutions in the field of surface arrangement are needed, for which specialized checker plates are used. Our company has been specializing in their production for years. The varied structure of the platform slabs and guide plates not only organizes the space, but above all allows the blind to move around safely. Tactile paths laid with their participation are the best signpost, protecting the disabled from health-threatening situations.

Detail matters – custom-made panels

The revitalization of historic buildings is a huge undertaking that requires close cooperation between architects and conservators, but also contractors of construction works and suppliers of materials. Usually, there is a need to use tailor-made solutions, e.g. originally decorated shutters, hand-fired bricks or refer to the original appearance of floor slabs, which will allow to recreate the old character of the place, adapting it to modern functional requirements. This was the case with the Wrocław Main Railway Station. For the implementation including the platform zone, we provided floor slabs, the pattern and formats of which were prepared to the individual order of the investor. As a result, a stylish and fully usable arrangement was created, perfectly referring to the historical original.

For the purposes of the investment, we delivered:

– Red platform slabs with dim. 100×75 cm- 2.222 m2
– White grooved guide plates with dimensions of 50×25 cm- 740 m2
– Red floor slabs with dimensions of 50×25 cm-740 m2
– Grey floor slabs with dimensions of 35×35 cm- 8.315 m2.
