Durable, aesthetic, functional and safe – these are the features that should characterize outdoor stairs. Bearing in mind their regular use, already at the design stage we should take care of the appropriate material from which not only the stairs but also the stair cladding will be made. In the following text, we suggest how to combine their functionality with original design.
Exterior stair cladding – which material to choose?
Rain, snow, frost, sunlight, temperature changes and, of course, heavy traffic – outdoor stairs are exposed to a number of challenges every day that they should meet. Durability is one thing, but we also often want them to blend in properly with the façade of the house and not cause difficulties in maintenance. Unfortunately, not every material will cope with intensive use. Wooden stair cladding looks beautiful in catalogues, but it requires almost constant care on a daily basis. Even the use of the best impregnating agents will not protect them from the destructive effects of moisture, loss of color and drying out caused by sunlight.
We recommend choosing exterior staircase cladding made of materials for special tasks. Concrete is undoubtedly one of them. Very high resistance to loads and abrasion, high resistance to changing and difficult weather conditions, including frost resistance – these are the features that guarantee the comfort of everyday use for many years. Thanks to internal impregnation, DASAG products have high hydrophobic parameters, absorb moisture much more slowly, and the amount of discoloration associated with calcium hydroxides appearing on the surface is reduced.
Cladding for external concrete stairs – better does not have to be the enemy of good
Individual stair treads made of concrete may differ in height, which can have a direct impact on the functionality of the entire structure. To ensure greater safety of its use, it is worth ensuring equal heights of all steps, e.g. by properly enclosing the stairs with cladding. Due to the wide range of possibilities that allow you to adjust the dimensions and technical parameters to the individual needs of the customer, you can choose the steps in such a way as to eliminate any shortcomings that occurred during the creation of concrete blocks that are the basis. We also recommend the use of special anti-slip inserts to increase the safety of movement.
