Łódź Fabryczna Railway Station

Open City Operation

The renovation and reconstruction of the Łódź Fabryczna railway station was one of the largest investments of this type in Europe, for which the highest quality building materials were used – including signs for the disabled and Dasag signage for the blind. As many as 300 constructors were involved in the work on the project and its implementation. The result of more than five years of work is an extensive complex, which consists of an underground railway station, a bus station and a car park. In addition to functionality, the Łódź Fabryczna Railway Station has enriched the urban fabric in terms of aesthetics. The eclectic architecture of the building combines modernity with traditional urban development, which is to refer to and resemble the former station building. The dominant feature of the body is a dynamic, glazed roof.

Signs for the disabled – features of a premium station

The Łódź Fabryczna station has been designed in accordance with European safety standards, so it is also adapted for the disabled and blind, who are increasingly travelling by train. Special markings for the blind have been installed on all platforms – these are tactile marking systems, making it easier to locate, for example, the edge of the platform. The designers also opted for Probet-Dasag products this time. On such a large area, about 10 km of noble concrete slabs and external staircase cladding made of prefabricated concrete elements were used.

Urban development with safety in mind

Tactile marking systems are designed to improve the comfort of all passengers. Their use in places such as the Łódź Fabryczna Railway Station increases the safety not only of people with vision problems, but also of other users. At the investor’s request, Dasag created a non-standard color range of tactile signage, which helped to maintain the visual consistency of the project.
